Synopsis : He was known to those dear to him as 'The Tango King', to others, Doc Ismail; and his trade-mark pipe  was always within reach, no matter what the occasion.

This 'third man' of Malaysian politics, Tun Dr. Ismail was a true nation builder, committed to bridging the gulf of ethnicity and religion in this country.

A love story about one man's love for the people in his life and his country, this presentation uses original writing and musical composition, and incorporates the remarkably beautiful poetry of fellow Johorian and National Laureate Dato’ Usman Awang.

Essentially a dramatisation of real events in the history of Malaysia, the musical does not in any way seek to present its material as historical fact. It seeks to, at the very least, remain true to the spirit of Tun Dr Ismail and his time.

Written by U-En Ng, with the poetry of Dato' Usman Awang, music by Dato' Johari Salleh, musical direction by Mervyn Peters and choreography by A. Aris Kadir.

Directed by Joe Hasham and starring Malik Taufiq, Tunku Alizakri, Tisha Zarina Zainal, Ari Ratos, Lim Soon Heng and Belinda Richardson.

neno's "ismail you said you love me" will ring in your ears long after the musicial has ended - it still does like a bad dream, in mine 7 days after I watched it!

A true performance that tries to please everyone, putting in poetry, songs, traditional dances, all in one work - I don't understand how this piece of work could be categorized as a musical. The songs seem to be written in a "popular music" structure which has few parts being repeated over and over again, instead of the musical form that tells that of a story.

The characters were speaking in true Brit-ish way - ending with the "eh(s)" and filled with "damn(s)" as adjectives. For a moment I thought I was watching a Brit-ish play!! Although I could understand the British colonization playing a part in influencing the accent (possibly), doesn't it make more sense to have a Malaysian-ised accent instead?

Nevertheless, I'd have to give credits to the casts (especially Tish) for their strong vocal and impressive acts - it was just the storyline that seem a little weak, and seemed to squeeze in as much facts found from Wikipedia and the likes. All IMHO...

Joe has taken the right steps in redeeming himself after the TUNKU garbage last year...But,I wonder if the good stuff is really from ego-centric Joe Hasham...or the people he surrounds himself with.Hhmmmmm.Think about it.

the acting was brilliant, the music was superb. malik was excellent! and i don't mind at all the brit accent.

though, i thought the play was missing some critical or 'kick' elements in its overall storyline. like, it's more fun to read 'the reluctant politician' compared to the play.

well, that's just my humble opinion.

I must congratulate Kok Man & Caesar for the stage design. Love it!

The best singer in the entire show would probably be Alizakri and I must say I really enjoy watching Neno (Tish)'s performance. She is a joy to watch. Ismail is very different from the first few musicals staged by KLPAC. I really love the poetry in Bahasa, it's beautiful. Just open your ears and listen, there are wonderful things going on in the play..

Yes! I remember Broken Bridges! I watched the show 3 times and the 2 leading young men were fantastic! Great acting & singing of course. They were magical! The best 2 leads I have ever watched so far in KLPAC's musical.

In Ismail, it's different tho.. very poetic and lots of opportunities for the 2 leading characters to bring out the story..

Yes, KLPAC, please bring back Broken Bridges! So many of my friends missed it..

Oh YES! Please, KLPAC, bring Broken Bridges back for a second time. It was such an enjoyable musical. It has humour, which seems to be missing in all the musicals after that. Yeah I also loved the great rapport between Douglas Lim and Ho Soon Yoon as the 2 boys. And not to mention the wonderful performance by Colin Kirton as 'Uncle Wong'. The aunties led by Joanna Kam were hilarious. These are the musicals that every-day people can identify to. Bring it back, KLPAC, please!
